As a former pastor who regularly preached to audiences of all types and sizes, I understand the importance of captivating an audience. And like you, I’ve been on the receiving end of a message that left me feeling bored, distracted, and frustrated.
That’s why I take speaking so seriously. As a communicator, I’m especially aware of the need for speakers to connect with an audience: if you are willing to share your valuable time and thought space with me, I’m going to make sure you walk away with something practical and valuable to use.
A little more about me
I began my career as a pastor, working in different leadership roles across different churches in the Midwest, before moving into the private sector. I’ve always had an interest in leadership, so after earning a Master’s degree in Transformational Leadership, I set out to help develop leaders across all industries through my own company, Ott Leadership.
As I’ve worked with leaders throughout the years, one major theme has emerged: very few people are prepared to be leaders before they become leaders. As a result, leaders and employees alike experience pain, frustration, and eventual failure. Untrained and undeveloped leaders end up harming their organizations more than they help. Eventually, these leaders are moved out of the role, only to be replaced by yet another untrained and undeveloped leader.
And the cycle continues.
My aim is to disrupt that cycle, and help leaders discover newfound confidence in their roles. I want to see humanity breathed back into leadership, where leaders can look upon their employees and see people, not just burdens. I want to help the workplace become a place where employees look forward to sharing their passion and energy in, not dread coming to.
All of my programs, workshops, and talks are centered around this focus. Participants will always go home feeling more equipped to build healthier, more productive organizations, employees, and workplaces.
